I've never read a book where some parts had me hooked because I was so interested in the whole concept of the story and others felt so boring that I almost stopped reading. The beginning of the second part is obviously meant to make not much sense at a first glance, and I'm sure you could write tons of interpretations on that and what it tells you about both Sacchetti's state and personality alone, but I'm not familiar enough with everything he's quoting there, and even if I were, it's still too much for my taste.
