2,5 stars. DNF, 25 % read.It is a beautifully written book, but one that I ultimately struggled with. It might have been a case of right book, wrong time. While McGregor's prose is undeniably lyrical and evocative, I found myself lacking the patience for its repetitive style and the feeling of being left in the dark. The narrative unfolds slowly, mirroring the gradual process of healing. This is clearly intentional, and while you have a sense of what's going on, the author never explicitly states it. This is clearly intentional, but for me, it became a source of frustration rather than a compelling artistic choice. The constant circling back to certain themes and images, while powerful, made it difficult to stay engaged. I simply didn't have the emotional bandwidth to endure the prolonged ambiguity and the lack of a clear narrative arc.For a reader with more patience and a different mindset, this book could be a profound and moving experience. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the "nerve" to stick with it.
