Ich bin beim Stöbern im Online-Katalog meiner Bücherei über das Cover und den (sperrigen) Titel gestolpert… Ich bin so froh, dass ich das Buch ausgeliehen habe, denn es war so viel besser, als ich mir vorgestellt habe! Die Geschichte fühlt sich genauso an, wie das Cover aussieht: Düster, alt, detailreich, manchmal verwirrend (aber das hält nie an) und nicht zuletzt faszinierend. Sie setzt sich Stück für Stück zusammen – von mehren Punkten gleichzeitig, wie ein Puzzle – bis am Ende ein vollständiges Bild entstanden ist. Die Charaktere, die Geschichte, der ganze Aufbau ist fesselnd. Gehört für mich schon jetzt zu meinen Jahreshighlights!!

uhm i have NO idea what happened in this book. i don‘t think there‘s a plot? it was like a feverdream, no chronological storytelling, just a lot of descriptions and vibes i guess? what i liked about the book is how refreshing it is. it‘s a story about witches, women sleeping with the devil, ghosts and gruesomeness. it was unlike anything i have read before, it‘s so clear that it‘s a book made out of old fables from catalania. i also REALLY loved how „disgusting“ the women were: they yell, laugh, bleed, fart, shit, give ugly birth, f**k the devil, etc. these aren‘t „women“ as we knew them in our social „womanhood“ concept. which is why they were called witches and whores and evil people. this book is raw af. there‘s nothing hidden in here. there‘s a lot of bodily fluids and ugly smells and disgusting scenarios. this was refreshing and original and i liked it. i liked how ugly giving birth was. i liked how often these women were actually animals (in a biological sense, not in a degrading way). also there‘s a lot of animals mating and grunzing and bleeding and getting cut and eaten as well. in short: if you‘re vegan or hate „raw“ descriptions, this isn‘t for you. i also liked how women were the only ones who‘d be able to love the devil. i liked how they were seen as unpredictable, unzähmbar, wild. i also really liked the lesbian sexscenes - such an interesting description of it. but: i wouldn‘t read it again. i wouldn‘t recommend it unless you‘re into old, gruesome, plotless fables. i‘m thinking about unhauling it but since it‘s the first „female rage“ book i‘m reading and i‘m a big fan of how the women were written, i might keep it for a bit. but irene sola you absolute girlboss! love this for you! give me some of your wild, crazy mind. also: there‘s a paragraph where it says that when jesus was in his folter & dyingtimes, god only cared about him. god didn‘t have any capacity or time to care about anyone else than jesus and i really liked thinking about that

Eine der faszinierendsten literarischen Neuentdeckungen des Jahres. Wirklich mal etwas Anderes, eine originelle, mystische und nachdenklich machende Prämisse, tolle Figuren, ein spannendes Setting und trotz mancher schiefer Bilder auch sprachlich sehr überzeugend. Gerade zu Beginn nicht immer einfach, zu durchschauen, wer wer ist. Und durch den fast absatzlosen Fließtext anfangs etwas schwierig, zwischen den Lebenden und den Toten zu unterscheiden. Im Verlauf des Romans macht aber genau das den Reiz aus. Großartig und raffiniert, wie nach und nach im Laufe eines Tages aufgeschlüsselt wird, wer von wem geboren wurde und zu wem welche Geschichte gehört. Ein anspruchsvoller, aber ganz und gar faszinierender Text, der mich gerade in der zweiten Hälfte unheimlich zu fesseln und begeistern wusste. Es war meine erste Lektüre von Irene Sola, und sie macht unbedingt Lust auf weitere Texte dieser spannenden Autorin.
