It has beend a while since i last read a Ken Follet book and def. been a while since 'pillars of the earth'. Historical books are one of my favourite kind of books (if not THE favourite kind), esp. when the setting is in England. I loved Pillars of the earth so i was excited to read this. I must say... i was disappointet. Sure, the historical things where all interesting and the characters where kind of interesting too, but the story was a bit ... lame. I had to force myself a bit to finish it. The main thing that irritated me was the fact that the thing that brought the main characters more or less together in the beginning (= the mysterious knight, later monk Thomas and the paper that he hid in the woods) was not really anything special or anything that had to do with the life of the characters/the plot of the book. It was a really small thing mentioned in the end and i was hoping for more of a secret and something that got revealed through the book. In the end, it was a solid historical novel about the daily life of the people in a small town in England. But i had higher expectations from Ken Follet somehow.
