Buddy read with: Mari I found this book when browsing the audible included library and stumbled upon it. Don’t think I have ever heard of it before? But it sounded really good, so I wanted to give it ago. Mari thought the same, so we went into it pretty much blind. The set up of the book is kinda confusing at first, because you get thrown a lot of lore into your lap. But if you go with it the way I go with most fantasy books (accepting your fate and hoping understanding will come later), you should be fine. I certainly was. The author has a beautiful writing style and stays very true to characters instead of going with “easier” more common trope ways, they might behave later on. The reserved one doesn’t suddenly become super open, the one that only looks out for themselves doesn’t suddenly want what’s good for everyone and the hero of the story ain’t a knight in shining armor doing everything in a way that is super clean in a world full of dirt. The characters felt all very authentic and real enough to love and hate. The storyline was not the most conventional and I LOVED that. It had its ups and downs, a lot of plotting, killing and deception. This is NOT your everyday fairytale, so don’t expect a happy ending, for this book won’t end the way you think it will at all. Highly recommend and will reread later on.
