My Soul to Lose sets up an interesting story about Kaylee Cavanaugh. Kaylee goes shopping with her friend Emma to buy their dresses for homecoming with the goal to make Kaylee's tool of an ex-boyfriend jealous. Because shortly after dumping Kaylee he asks out Emma for homecoming and so the girls plan to take their revenge on Toby. But things go all wrong when darkness overcomes Kaylee and a scream builds up inside her, one that cannot be contained. Kaylee seemed a likable enough character to me and her friend Emma, who I'm hoping will stick around in the series itself, seems fun to hang around. My Soul to Lose made me laugh out loud several times and the writing is good enough as well. I will certainly be reading the first "real" book this series.
