Keine Angst, das Buch hat nichts damit zu tun dass die Familie des Erzählers in die Karibik fliehen muss. Das ist einfach Greg. Als seine Mutter zu ihm kommt, und mit ihm über etwas Ernstes reden will, schweifen seine Gedanken so weit ab, bis in die Karibik. Dabei kommt es dann noch schlimmer, eine Nachbarin hat Leukämie, und Greg soll sich mit ihr anfreunden. So weit so gut. Die Geschichte klang interessant und das einzigartige Cover sieht einfach super im Regal aus. Aber bei der Umsetzung der Geschichte ging das ganze dann den Bach runter. "This book contains precisely zero important life lessons." Nicht nur das sowohl Autor als auch Ich-Erzähler einem konstant erzählen, dass es das Buch nicht wert ist, gelesen zu werden und das sie sich wundern, dass man immer noch dabei ist, Greg entwickelt sich auch zu einem der nervigsten Ich-Erzähler, die mir in meiner Leser-Laufbahn je begegnet sind. Am Anfang ist das ja alles noch ganz witzig. Wenn der Autor einem am Anfang schon erzählt, wie schlecht sein Buch ist, schmunzelt man das schnell weg, und auch Gregs Humor ist am Anfang noch ganz witzig. Aber im Verlauf der Geschichte zieht sich das alles so hin und es findet auch keinerlei Entwicklung bei ihm als Charakter statt, noch nicht mal durch Rachel "the dying girl". Ich hatte mir von "Me, Earl and the Dying Girl" einiges erwartet, leider konnte ich dem ganzen Buch nicht wirklich etwas abgewinnen. "If after reading this book you come to my home and brutally murder me, I truely do not blame you." Von mir gibt es einen Stern extra, weil es sich alleine wegen dem tollen Cover und der Aufmachung lohnt, sich das Buch ins Regal zu stellen. Für die Umsetzung der Geschichte allein hätte ich höchstens 2 Sterne vergeben.

Die Story hat mir nicht wirklich gefallen. Aber das Buch ist witzig geschrieben und der Aufbau durchaus einfallsreich. Trotzdem kann ich dem Buch nur 3 Sterne geben, da die Geschichte nicht überzeugt hat. Mir geht es auch gar nicht darum, dass es kein zweites The Fault in our stars ist, sondern schlicht und ergreifend um den Ablauf der Geschichte und der handelnden Figuren.

This was not a story I could have taken something or anything for a fact, it was more like those memes we look over the internet and chuckle to ourselves, like a good timepass. Three stars because I thoroughly enjoyed the different narratives and the humour, I LOVE DARK HUMOUR AND EARL, OH MY GOD EARL, you wanna be friends? xD But other than that eh, the film was so much better with a message to give, characters to love and see them grow. A solid read if you go for just the humour and something light to read to lift up your mood and as I say this i feel bad because there is someone dying in the book, geez, but well that's how the book is :P

Sobre la chica que cambia la vida de todos a quienes rodea. Sobre un chico que ve la profundidad de la vida y la valora aún más ahora. Pero no, esta historia no es sobre Rachel en realidad, a pesar del título que se le puso en español. No, esta es la historia de Greg: un chico normal, bastante cínico y que no tiene idea de cómo tratar con los últimos acontecimientos en su vida. En otras palabras: un adolescente normal, bastante común y un poco corriente. Si bien leer sobre adolescentes muy profundos, con infinitas metáforas y palabras que resaltar, es adorable y nos tiene llorando al terminar el libro. Para mí, fue muy importante leer un libro como este, porque un adolescente real y típico, es bastante difícil que tenga una gran conciencia sobre la vida, sobre todo si durante toda su vida no ha habido acontecimientos que le marcaran de manera significativa. En Me and Earl and The Dying Girl, vemos eso, algo real, un adolescente que no tiene la más mínima idea que hacer ahora que una de sus amigas está muriendo, sobre una amiga que no ve hace mucho tiempo. Es fácil identificarse con Greg, incluso si no quieres, porque sí, uno espera que en el momento necesario tengamos la mega frase para levantar el ánimo de las personas que nos importa... Pero por lo general, no sabemos que decir hasta que pasan unos cuantos días. Me ha pasado mucho. Un Final Para Rachel, el título que se le puso en español, nos da la idea equivocada, nos vende un Bajo la Misma Estrella a la inversa o una nueva versión de Before I Die, si lo que estás buscando es eso, vas a salir decepcionado. El mismo Greg lo dice en los capítulos iniciales. (Y seamos honestos, este movimiento comercial de poner Un Final Para Rachel fue innecesario, ponerle "Earl y la chica moribunda y yo" no hubiera sido tan malo... Aunque "moribunda" suena cruel) Como leí por ahí, Greg Gaines es un anti-héroe, es alguien con el que quizás tengas dificultad de congeniar y lo más probable es que termines queriendo matarlo o al menos cachetearlo un par de veces. Es un tipo que por todo eso obviamente me cayó la mar de bien. GREG. GREG. GREG. Sé que me la estoy pasando hablando de su protagonista, pero como el título indica, al menos hay tres personas en este libro. Rachel si bien es la razón de los problemas de Greg, no es una parte realmente... ¿Cómo decirlo? No está tanto en la historia como podrías pensar, de ahí que el título en español sea un poco engañoso. Porque este historia en realidad es sobre Greg y Earl. Lo que me gusta de Earl, el colega de Greg, es que tenemos dos cosas en común; 1) el tamaño, algo que nos fastidiará hasta el día de nuestra muerte y 2) es que nuestro humor por defecto también es Molesto y por si eso falla, tenemos el otro que es Muy Molesto. Algo que noté en el trailer de la película es que al parecer nuestra cosa en común número 1 no está siendo respetada. Cuando vea el trabajo final, te diré que pienso al respecto. BUT... Si has visto mi puntuación más arriba, quizá te preguntes porque no se llevó las cinco estrellas si es tan genial como lo pinto. Lo que pasa es que en los últimos capítulos siento que faltó algo, creo que el hecho que me riera tanto al inicio para luego ponerse un poco menos gracioso fue un poco chocante. i couldnt really relate with greg or earl or even rachel greg is such an annoying character who always said he doesnt like rachel and then hes sitting in the hospital and cant stop crying because of her i am sorry but what are you doing guy there were some really good parts like "this isnt a lovestory because i dont want to lie" or the description of cancer with the bombs which i really liked and i also liked the part with the movies (what i doesnt like: greg hates every single movie or thing he ever made) because im really interested in this topic :)
