The story follows Virgil Wander on his post-car-crash journey to his altered self. The vibes are as midwestern as promised, featuring a rusting town, a vintage movie theatre and a cast of incredibly unique small-town characters. We have a missing person case, a fight for revenge and newfound family, we have stars and wind and snow and an overall feeling of nostalgia.

I knew I had found a new favorite book a few pages in. The author is a genius, his writing style is insane. I’d almost compare it to Fitzgerald regarding my emotional investment. Enger is able to create an incredibly vivid scenery, it has been a long time since I last immersed myself in a story like this. I tried to read as slowly as possible to savor ever moment. Tragically, the book is over now and I don’t know what to do with my life.
