This book is a bit of a departure from the previous three, due to Maisie's rift and subsequent distancing from Maurice. I actually like it; I think she's ready to be more independent, and she's capable enough that she doesn't need him. At the same time, it's a bit sad, and I can't help but hope that they reconcile and eventually consult with each other as equals. I miss him. I was also slightly surprised that she ended things with Andrew, more because it's a departure from the expected plot than because of anything more concrete. I think she was right to do it, especially after his reaction, which seemed out of character. And goodness, if he had someone else waiting in the wings, it's pretty rich of him to be upset with her for not ending it sooner. I pity Maisie's replacement a bit. At the same time, I couldn't help but wonder how she would have gotten along with Nick. He probably would have been too stubborn for her, and it's pointless as he's dead. But the thought crossed my mind. I'm looking forward to the next one!
