I really like the kind of science fiction this is: character driven, which gives it an overall cosy atmosphere, but still with a strong focus on exploring ideas and building a fascinating, diverse world. The execution had some things that worked for me and some that didn't. Aspects that I enjoyed included the character relationships, the variety in the world, the writing and some of the major themes and concepts. However, I think the story jumped from one event to the next way too quickly, not leaving enough room to explore the issues. Even the recurring topics left me wanting more. While this was an interesting read I feel like it didn't live up to it's full potential.
