Witches, Tarot and love

Eleanor has the worst year of her life behind her. She lost her best friend and dropped out of high school. Working in a witch shop in Salem, she gets a package with a booklet about the major arcana Tarot cards. Not long after she meets Pix and Ofira in the store, two witches who invite her to their coven. And Eleanor falls in love again but she's not sure she is ready. Each chapter starts with a major arcana vard and explanation that fits the chapter without it being too cheesy. I really enjoyed the story, it's an easy read and would be great for teenagers. The shadow of the past that follows Eleanor is well incorporated into the story and gives great suspense. I had ideas about it but they weren't all correct, so it's not too on the nose.

A suprise 4 star read for me. I only picked this up because it is relatively short and I was on a long train ride and then it kind of blew me away. This book covers a lot of heavy topics triggers include Heavy drug use, Depression, Anxiety, negative self talk, stalking, and mention of SA and probably more but I think that this book does an overall good job of covering these things and being respectful and gentle while also not romantizing at all. The story hit me right in the heart. We more or less follow 2 timelines 1 year ago and present day. The stories have interludes of Tarot card explanations followed by chapters who in some way corrospond to the meaning of the card which was a unique and engaging reading experience especially because the card explanations were short and vague enough that it didn't fit 100% to the story so that it didn't feel tacky to me. The book also covers a lot of criticism about society and capitalism which I really enjoy. Our Main characters are adorable especially Susan and our MCs Mum. The Mum is also chronically ill and I loved how the book made clear that yes she struggles but no her life isn't over just because she is sick which I appreciate a lot as a fellow Spoonie. Can't recommend this enough!
