This is the story of Moth Fenwick, a twelve year old girl living in the not-so-nice part of 1871 Manhattan. The story is told in her words and describes her transition from an innocent girl to a young woman. I don't want to gibe away too much of the story, but let me tell you: sometimes it's not the nicest of stories. It is well well written and you can get absolutely lost in the story.
