We all felt like we learned something interesting reading it. Many felt that it tried to do many things without doing any of them well. We wanted to know about Curie's inner/personal life or to have more accessible descriptions of the scientific studies and discoveries. Knowing more about how these findings became appreciated and valuable to society would have also been nice (many of us are scientists but could not fully follow the scientific descriptions!). We enjoyed the perspective of how academia might have looked at that time, for women, and for scientists in general, comparing to how it is now. It was both inspiring and enraging to read how difficult it was for women to be recognized in their work in academic circles back then, and to understand how lucky Marie was to have had the unconditional support and respect of her husband. Marie was clearly an extraordinary and humble woman. We enjoyed reading about how she lifted up other women, and we wanted to know more about their individual life arcs. All in all, we remain in admiration for Marie Curie as well as the entire lineage of both academic and biological legacies. Average score: 3.2 (but 5/9 Did not finish!)

The Elements of Marie Curie A fascinating and inspiring look into the life and legacy of Marie Curie. The writing is accessible and engaging, making complex scientific topics easy to follow. Reading it alongside my wife, a chemical engineer, made it even more meaningful—Marie’s work wasn’t just revolutionary in science, it helped pave the way for women in STEM fields. Favorite Quotes: “She opened a door to science that many women didn’t even know existed.” “Curie’s brilliance didn’t just light up the lab—it lit a path for generations to come.” A powerful and personal read that reminded us how one woman’s determination changed the world.
