There‘s a time and a place for second chances…this was not it. 💀♥️

In theory, this story should have been right up my alley. Navessa Allen? ☑️ Short story? ☑️ Spicy romance? ☑️ Reading a Valentine’s story around Valentine’s? ☑️ But somehow, Valentine’s Slay wasn’t able to sweep me off my feet, quite the opposite. Maybe I just wasn’t in the right headspace for it, but I couldn’t stop applying logical thinking to the story between Noah and Emma. Some of the choices they made felt a bit unrealistic to me, which pulled me out of the story more than once. And honestly, I’m starting to think that short stories might not be where Navessa Allen shines the most. Her characters and plots usually need a bit more time to marinate, if you know what I mean. Sure, the spice was spicy and so damn delicious (exactly what you’d expect from THE Navessa Allen), but it wasn’t enough to make this a better reading experience for me overall. 2.75 ⭐️ / 5 ⭐️

Valentine’s Slay was such a fun, spicy novella that had me hooked from the very first page. The premise is wild — a gravedigger named Noah hears his high school crush screaming from a freshly filled grave and rushes to save her. What follows is an unexpected mix of mystery, danger, dark humor, and a whole lot of heat. I loved how the story didn’t waste time with filler — it jumps right into the action and keeps things entertaining throughout, with just the right amount of spice 🥵 to make it memorable. Both Noah and Emma are compelling characters, and even in a short format, their connection feels fun and engaging. As my first Navessa Allen read, this definitely intrigues me to explore more of her work. If you’re in the mood for a quick, dark romance with sass, a unique plot, and steamy moments, this one’s worth a read — and I’m already looking forward to her next book!
