Beschreibung

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

An essay on the condition of women that has become an icon of literature and Feminism.

“Virginia Woolf is god, no one writes better than her.” —Milena Busquets

A Room of One’s Own is an extended essay by Virginia Woolf. First published in 1929, the essay was based on a series of lectures she delivered at Newnham College and Girton College, two women’s colleges at Cambridge University in October 1928.

While this extended essay in fact employs a fictional narrator and narrative to explore women both as writers and characters in fiction, the manuscript for the delivery of the series of lectures, titled Women and Fiction, and hence the essay, are considered nonfiction. The essay is seen as a feminist text and is noted in its argument for both a literal and figural space for women writers within a literary tradition dominated by patriarchy.

ENG I read it two years ago and thought it was a good book, but I didn't pay enough attention to it. Now that I have reread it and have been annotating it, I’ve realized the importance of this little book. The way in which the author exposes and takes us through her thought, for me, has been a bit like having a conversation with a friend. In addition, many of the topics he talks about and the problems he exposes are still very present. Obviously, many things have changed and improved, but realizing that a text written in 1929 is not so out of tune with our reality in 2025 is a bit shocking, not gonna lie. Highly recommended to everyone, obviously to women, readers and writers, and especially to all men. Molt recomanat a tothom, evidentment a dones lectores i escriptores, i sobretot a tots els homes, perquè reflexionin una mica.
