This I struggled with a little. Like, the steam was better than in the first book and the characterisation of the love interests too and I am starting to settle into the friend group this series follows, but this was also way more dramatic and high stakes, leaned more into the miscommunication aaaaand bit off a big chunk of politics - implicitly as well as explicitly. I don't think it handled that too well, which sadly put a significant strain on my enjoyment. CNs: parental douchebaggery and then full on parental abandonment and homophobia, estranged families, bribery, betrayal, self doubt/self worth issues, continued focus on the hardships of being a gay male athlete (this one is about Football, if anyone actually cared?!) It also has Alexander Cendese reading the name Nathaniel in a non-aftg context, which was hilarious to me :D
