Favorite book of this series so far || Tandem Read with EOS
Tandem Read: My first intention was to read both books on its own. I wanted to have the full impact. But as I grew somehow bored within the first 200-250 pages of EOS, I wanted to start the tandem read (and, tbh, a big reason was my tiredness of fantasy.) So I started the Tandem. Catched up in TOD and switched as my cheat sheat said. If I am being honest, I do not know if I'd recommend the tandem read. Yes, we're used by now to many POVs. And the many strings of story. For myself, this time it was a little too much. We get to know soooo many knew characters in TOD, its quite difficult to catch on. But on the other hand: EOS ends with a very hitting cliffhanger. And TOD has (I read in on my e-reader) 667 pages. So you have to get through 667 pages to know what the heck will happen. In Resume: I am glad I did it, even if it stressed me out (also, in the middle of tandem decided to not stick to a solid plan but choose to switch books whenever I thought it would be good.) Book: Hell yes. Big, fat - hell yes! I LOVED this one! It's something totally different, from what we've read until now from this journey. Even tho we start off with a lot of names, new culture and even more names, this book turned out to be my favorite until now. It was refreshing, a whole new way of writing. Not always the "helpless" hero as in "sh!t what do I do" but in "utterly helpless in every form you can imagine". And I loved it. Chaol was one of my favorite characters from the very beginning. Yes, he did some... really dumb things where even I wanted to shake that man. But I always understood, why he acted that way or this way. I understood, why he was broken, even if his way to express his feelings was a bit harsh to begin with, as Aelin told him, what and who she ist. The way he hated magic - I got it. But still, he could have acted different. Nonetheless, I loved him. And his character development was INSANE! I felt it with every page. This book was thrilling, it was an easy read (after you started to memorize the one trillion name) and I enjoyed every damn second of it. (Even tho its my favorite one so far, 4.5 stars, because it took me quite a while to comb through the characters and relationships. If it were just a.. few less names, it might have been a 5 star read!)
