The Voice of the Voiceless

Most people have a voice - physiologically. However, socially and politically many are voiceless. On the one hand, this voicelessness is the result of the subtle suppression of marginalized groups. On the other hand, it results from the conformity of the powerless. The contributions - lectures from the 16th International Colloquium on Communication held in Budapest, Hungary in 1998 - not only reveal facets of the problem, but also discuss pedagogical and political consequences.
