Once again, Alice Coldbreath is one of my favorite authors for historical romance. She always manages to write interesting romance about characters that you wouldn't necessarily find in other historical romance and I love that. This is the story of Benedict and Lizzie. Lizzie lives with her aunt, oncle and cousin who is now engaged to Benedict, up until the moment she sees the local reverend steal from her aunt. Lizzie being someone who is very straight and sincere doesn't shy away from setting the truth out. However, her family's reaction is to call her a liar for accusing a man of God and cast her out. Benedict is a 'reformed' prizefighter who was endeavoring to settle down as a gentleman with a house and wife, but seeing his fiancee's character, decides to walk out. Turns out, it would still be convenient for him to show up at the family's booth with a wife, and maybe Lizzie would be up for the part. I loved it, I loved Lizzie and the fact that she wasn't anytihng special to look at but that it is made clear that as he gets to know her, Benedict starts to find her well over attractive. I liked that Benedict knew what he was doing and was always firm but also quite soft with Lizzie. I loved that there was no kidnapping/mudering scheme that plagues the climaxes of historical romance sometimes. I loved it, please read it and all of Alice's books.
