Beschreibung

There is a secret organization that cultivates teenage spies. The agents are called Love Interests because getting close to people destined for great power means getting valuable secrets.

Caden is a Nice: The boy next door, sculpted to physical perfection. Dylan is a Bad: The brooding, dark-souled guy, and dangerously handsome. The girl they are competing for is important to the organization, and each boy will pursue her. Will she choose a Nice or the Bad?

Both Caden and Dylan are living in the outside world for the first time. They are well-trained and at the top of their games. They have to be – whoever the girl doesn’t choose will die.

What the boys don’t expect are feelings that are outside of their training. Feelings that could kill them both.

The Love Interest by Cale Dietrich is a gay YA thriller that is non-stop action from start to finish.

This book features two boys both challenged with making a girl fall in love with him instead of the other at peril of death. It does not ask the question of what type of society would put teenagers in this terrible position. For example, the main character is forced to watch a video of a robot strangling the life out of a boy his age, showing him what will happen if he doesn't win. There is no thought of, "I better run and call the police." Police or authorities who care don't seem to be around/exist. This world is a cold place where they throw teenagers in an incinerator if they get out of line. You just have to accept that and move on with the story. The two boys, one a Nice boy, and one who is a Bad boy, approach getting the girl's love from opposite perspectives. Jump ahead to this part of the story, the two boys alone:"I brought you here to kiss you" "Are you joking?" ... "I'm going to kiss Juliet tomorrow. And I need practice. ... I thought we could kiss each other like teenage girls do in sitcoms to prepare for the real thing." They are supposed to be enemies, because only one of them can live. But, the Bad boy is really nice. He likes to share his feelings with the Nice boy, and take him on long drives at night. He knocks on the Nice boy's bedroom window most every night, saying he needs friendship and someone to talk to who understands the truth of the situation they are in. The Bad boy is the one who wants to do the kissing. The Bad boy's warm openness is the only "good" thing in the world of this story. Just like the Nice boy does, I began to look forward to the parts of the story where the Bad boy appeared. What is going to happen, because apparently the Bad boy is driving the Nice boy to distraction. Why this book is getting a low rating. 1. It's one thing to spend all your time lying, because they will kill you if you do otherwise, but it's not enjoyable to still read the character lying about his true feelings after he rebelled against the people who will kill him in a great effort to live a truer and freer life. 2. I didn't enjoy the thought of robots choking kids to death. I feel this same love triangle story could have been reimagined and put in a happier context instead of a mean dystopian world, which I didn't enjoy. 3. I also didn't like the Nice guy being so concerned about his competition being killed. He kept saying his actual personality wasn't as nice as he was pretending to be, but he didn't have enough thoughts of self-preservation. He just kept saying, I don't want the other guy to die. That seemed stupid, when he would be the one to die instead.

4,5 gute Sterne! 😊

That book was amazing! Perhaps the most illogical book I have read in a long time. An entertaining story. Characters that are completely over the top. A whole story that is simply over the top. Top entertainment. I couldn't stop laughing at how absurd everything is. Queer, dystopian, dramatic. An absolute recommendation for a book in between. I don't know if it's written ironically or not, but it's amazing. And yes - Nicki Minaj is a queen!
