wow wow wow , ich bin sprachlos , es war bis zur letzten sekunde spannend und ich liebe ss so sehr :) wow
Ich dachte ich wüsste, worauf es hinauslaufen würde - wusste ich nicht. 4,5 Sterne, hat großen Spaß gemacht.
Sloan und Cherry lernen sich in Camp Money Springs als Betreuer kennen und es funkt direkt zwischen ihnen. Doch die Sommerromanze nimmt ein jehes Ende, als eine Gruppe maskierter Männer das Camp überfällt und alle Betreuer ermordet. Alle bis auf Sloan und Cherry. Sie haben überlebt, haben aber nun mit dem Trauma und Survivors Guilt zu kämpfen und dazu kommt noch, dass Sloans Erinnerungen an die Nacht nur sehr lückenhaft sind. Je mehr sie nach ihren verlorenen Erinnerungen gräbt, desto mehr beschleicht sie der Verdacht, dass ihre Freundin Cherry vielleicht gar nicht das arme Opfer ist... Theoretisch hat das Buch eigentlich alles, was mir gefallen sollte! Es ist ein queerer Psychothriller mit Sommercamp Slasher Elementen, der einen rätseln lässt, wem man eigentlich trauen kann. Aber alles in allem fand ich es nur meh... Ich musste auch nach jedem lesen eine längere Pause einlegen, bevor ich weiterlesen konnte, weil mich Sloan und Cherry so genervt haben. Die beiden Protagonistinnen waren für mich ein riesen Problem. Zum einen fand ich sie als Personen einfach unsympathisch und konnte null Bindung zu ihnen aufbauen und zum anderen war ihre Beziehung echt super toxisch. Ich versteh schon, was sich die Autorin dabei gedacht hat, ihre Traumabindung so darzustellen, aber das ganze hin und her war so anstrengend und hat bei mir echt heftigst an den Nerven gezehrt. Ich fand auch dass, zu viel in die Story reingeschmissen wurde, was dann aber irgendwie im Sand verlaufen ist und das Ende... ich hab mir fast gedacht, dass es so enden wird aber... it was a choice. 👀 Es hat mich sehr unzufrieden hinterlassen. Man hätte mehr aus der Story rausholen können um das Ende sinniger zu machen, aber naja... kann man jetzt auch nicht mehr ändern. War leider nicht mein Fall.

Let me start off by saying: Wow. I liked Jennifer Dugan's writing already since reading Some Girls Do but in The Last Girls Standing it was even better. You got to feel the characters emotions first hand. The plot itself wasn't entirely what I suspected and that surprised me. I am unsure if I liked the surprise but it challenged my inner emotions. The characters were all quite unique and interesting but the book was a bit more internal on Sloan. This was really good for the plot though. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 3.5 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘀? ⭐ The plot left me a bit thirsty when it came to the cover and promise of a Summer Camp novel. You don't get to see all that much about the Camp and what happened. I was hoping for more but it didn't come. I also felt like the other characters could've done more and some weren't as present. All in all this book emotionally disturbed me in a good way and I can recommend you to read it if you can handle heavy emotions.

Truly captivating! I really liked how we accompany Sloan in this book. She and her girlfriend Cherry are the only survivors of a summer camp massacre (that's if you don't count the one left murderer). Sloan is so traumatized that her memories are missing and Cherry is just functioning in some desperate autopilot, holding on to the little things she can control in her life. Like picking Sloan up whenever, staying together means feeling save for them. But the more Sloan tries to remember, the more she thinks about things Cherry said, phrases she uses that are similar to the beliefs of the murderer group that attacked them at summer camp. Sloan can't shake the feeling that there is more to it. Watching Sloan gather the puzzle pieces gave me goosebumps. Who are these masked murderers? Who gave her that scar that night? Did she her the things she thinks she heard? Or did Cherry lie to her and tell a version of the night that fits her purpose? You always have to consider that maybe Sloan is wrong but otherwise maybe Cherry is gaslighting Sloan. Did they survive a massacre or are they still in danger? I didn't give full stars because I would have liked to get more information. Maybe the news articles as not summarized. I felt very much like Sloan, like I'm missing some parts.
