Heartwarming 💕, spicy 🌶️ but also very important subjects 🏥 (check TW!)
This book has been on my TBR since 2022. I didn‘t expect much from it, since it thought 'The Kiss Quotient’ and 'The Bride Test‘ to be 'nice‘ at best. But then there were Anna and Quan who took my heart in a minute. Anna has to deal with a lot throughout the book, regarding personal stuff and family stuff. And Quan is also recovering from a severe set-back. All in all this exceeded my expectations by far! 💕

This book was terribly one-sided. I wanted to see more of Quan, but for some reason he was neglected for nearly half of the book. His chapters didn't contribute much to him as an individual, rather focused more on his relationship with Anna. I loved both of them. I love Anna, and it was remarkable to see how Helen portrayed her struggles very realistically throughout the book. Her issues with her family were very touching, and what Anna went through was an incredible journey. I just wish that kind of a spotlight was put on Quan too. From what was already known about Quan from the previous books, I was excited to see him as a MC in this one, and it is was a bit of a letdown when that didn't happen.

I think I haven’t been swept away to this extend by a book in a long time. The way it is written is so sincere and full of great descriptions of hardship and toxic relationships and life, it gripped me. I couldn’t read every detail one time because I was so enraged by the injustice of her family not seeing how she was hurting and putting her down all the time. To read that there were a lot of parallel to Hoangs own experiences didn’t surprise me, I must say. It just felt so real. Truly incredible and sad that she had to go through things like this.

This book made my heart feel warm. Read it in one evening. The main characters feel so real and the story, even though it's totaly romantic, still relatable. I can only recommend it. Spice/Smutt-Level:

Keeping it short and simple on this one. I get where people who didn't like this were coming from. It wasn't as rom-comy and soft as the other two books in the series. It had very deep and sensitive topics. I didn't mind that tho. The writing style was amazing as always. The autism rep in this book was different from the other two books, because the author brought parts of her own story into the book. The reason why this book gets 4 stars and not five is because I feel like we could have gotten more of Quan. I do get that the story was about Anna, especially because her character was a way for the author to share her story. I just wish it wouldn't have been so heavily focused on Anna. Like the way Quan always has to take care of everyone, I would have loved to have someone who would ask him how he is doing. He keeps saying that he loves taking care of others, but I just expected a different dynamic from the couple in this. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed it. I really liked the relationship set-up. I loved how they got to know one another and the way they connected over that octopus was adorable. The story was really fast paced and packed with emotions. These books are starting to become my comfort books and I am not complaining. The bride test has to be my favorite, but all the love to Quan. We all need one in our lives...

“Just because something isn't perfect doesn't mean we need to throw it away.” Another beautiful book from Helen Hoang. Rather than being all about the romance, this book focuses a lot on Anna, her self discovery and struggle with her autism diagnosis, pressure from her family, perfectionism, being a caregiver and on the edge of burnout. And it felt so raw and real, and really made me feel all the emotions.
