「A pretty simple best friends to lovers story with two swimmers in their last school year. Vance is still a virgin because he is in love with Harden and freezes with other people. When Harden hears about this "problem" (without the being-in-love part), and Vance jokes about him helping him, he agrees. Of course, the feelings don't stay one-sided, but they can't be open about their relationship because of Hardens father, who is running for president.」 This had some good ideas, but it was so weirdly written, especially in the beginning. It got better over the course of the book, but always when I thought it was kinda okay now, another weird line/situation was dropped 😅 They just didn't talk to each other like friends. At the beginning I was even confused if I was remembering the blurb wrong and they were already together because there was constant flirting. And the whole conversation around Harden "helping" Vance loose his virginity was soo weird and made no sense. They generally were often talking in circles and I don't know how often Harden was just demanding to know EVERY thought of Vance when he had even the slightest suspicion he wasn't telling him EVERYTHING (even though he himself didn't even do that). Then Harden instantly agreeing to the thing and having no problem being intimate with another guy, let alone his best friend, right away. Just nothing felt believable or if it meant anything. There are conversations about it later, and I was glad it wasn't sweeped under the rug completely, but the timing felt off. The story was kept really simple. Besides the main characters, there're really only their parents (+ brother) and one team mate and the focus is on Hardens dad. He (and the mother, who had like 2 lines) are also super weird. Like, why is everyone a detective in this. His parents just "feel like" he is hiding something and make a huge deal about it without even saying what this is about?? I liked their relationship in the end and there were a few cute/hot moments, but the overall writing just wasn't that good imo. Also very melodramatic around the end 😂
