Das Buch war extrem detailliert und recherchiert. Das war einerseits zwar interessant, aber nahm auch sehr die Spannung raus bzw. es gab dadurch ziemliche Längen. Das Buch ist in der Gegenwart und ist sehr zeitgemäss geschrieben, trotzdem hat es mich irgendwie nicht vollkommen packen können. Vielleicht wegen den Längen, aber auch die Geschichte. Wann hat man genug? Der tiefe Fall eines evtl. korrupten Polizisten? Wo fängt Korruption an? Wo hört sie auf? Das streben nach immer mehr Geld und Macht, wie man es halt schon oft gelesen hat, bringt immer Probleme.
Insgesamt ist es ein gelungener, spannender aber auch etwas vorhersehbarer Thriller. Zudem ist es echt erschreckend, wenn man bedenkt, dass diesem Buch 5 Jahre Recherche zugrunde liegen. Ist die Welt wirklich so korrupt? Und wer schützt uns nun vor denen, die uns schützen sollen? Ich kann das Buch wirklich wärmstens empfehlen.
Bevor man sich dem Buch zuwendet, muss man folgendes Wissen: Es ist brutal, es ist skrupellos, es ist rassistisch, es vermittelt ein falsches Frauenbild und eine toxische Männlichkeit und der Umgangston ist wahnsinnig primitiv. Kurzum: Es ist nicht gutzuheißen, aber es passt zur Handlung und dem Umfeld, indem das Buch spielt. Ich nehme nicht an, dass sich Drogenbosse und Bandenmitglieder mit Wattebäuschchen bewerfen und sich "Süsse/r" sagen. Weiter erzählt der Autor sehr detailreich, was man mögen muss. Die Handlung an sich ist am Anfang sehr eintönig, da sie meist nach demselben Schema abläuft: Der Hauptprotagonist geht zur Arbeit, mischt einige Kriminelle auf, dreht korrupte Dinger, legt seine Geliebte flach, geht in die Kneipe oder ins Bordell, nimmt Drogen und verdammt viel Bargeld wechselt jeweils den Besitzer. Am nächsten Tag beginnt es wieder von vorne. Täglich grüßt das Murmeltier, sozusagen. Wirklich spannend wird es erst, als sich die Schlinge um Danny Malones Hals langsam zuzieht und seine hochkomplexe Welt zu zerbrechen droht. In diesem Moment kommt der Spannungsbogen zustande und wirkte auf mich wie ein Sog. Ich wollte das Buch nicht mehr weglegen. Bis auf den Hauptcharakter wirkten die anderen Charaktere auf mich enorm blass. Ich konnte sie kaum auseinanderhalten, da sie sich sehr ähnlich waren. Damit hatte ich wirklich meine Mühe. Apropos "Ähnlichkeit": Es gibt in diesem Buch nur eine Handvoll Charaktere, welche "normal" sind – sprich, welche NICHT korrupt sind. Ansonsten quillt das Buch über vor korrupten Polizisten, Anwälten, Richter und Staatsangestellten. Danny Malone ist ein Hauptcharakter, der nicht wirklich sympathisch ist, und ich hatte ein zwiespältiges Verhältnis zu ihm. Ich mochte und hasste ihn gleichermaßen. Ich mochte ihn dafür, wie er die Kriminellen in die Schranken weist. Gleichzeitig hasste ich ihn, weil er so korrupt war. Der Schreibstil an sich war flüssig und das Erzähltempo gut. Trotzdem gab es aber auch hie und da Längen und es war etwas zäh.
Stark recherchiert und voller Antipathie.
In Corruption taucht ein Phänomen auf, dass ich in dieser Form noch nicht gesehen habe. Denn es gibt einfach keinen Charakter, mit dem ich übermäßig sympathisieren könnte. Mit dem einen mehr als mit dem anderen, klar, aber ein jeder zeichnet sich durch den einen oder anderen katastrophalen Charakterzug aus. Ist sowas sonst der Fall, dann lege ich das Buch rasch bei Seite. Hier allerdings nicht. Denn die Spannung wird stets hoch gehalten. Corruption ist außerordentlich gut recherchiert und sticht so durch seine Authentizität heraus. Unglaublich stark, aber sehr harter Tobak.
