Then, like her warrior mother, Katherine must take to the battlefield and save England when its old enemies the Scots come over the border and there is no one to stand against them but the new Queen.

Ein sehr gutes Buch über eine beeindruckende Frau. Katharina von Aragon ist beharrlich, mutig und unglaublich stark gewesen. Viele andere junge Frauen hätten das, was sie erlebt hat, niemals durchstehen können. Und auch nach all den Ehejahren mit Henry hat sie nie aufgegeben und vor allem nie nachgegeben.. auch wenn ich Anne Boleyn nicht weniger interessant finde, so war ihre Vorgängerin genauso faszinierend.
Ich hätte ja nie gedacht, dass ich einen historischen Roman lese, solange ich vom Alter her unter 65 bin, aber ich bin begeistert. Ein bisschen zu lesen wie ein New Adult Roman mit mehr Anspruch und ohne detailreiche Matratzengymnastik und Drama ohne Ende. Spannend, lehrreich, unterhaltsam mit vielen Intrigen und Machtspielen. Werd die Reihe auf jeden Fall weiterlesen!
Katharina von Aragon kommt als Tochter des mächtigsten Herrscherpaares ihrer Zeit zur Welt. Ferdinand von Kastilien und Isabella von Aragon. Von früher Kindheit an ist es ihr bestimmt, Königin von England zu werden. Katharina ist bestens darauf vorbereitet und auch die Kunst des Herrschens ist ihr nicht fremd. Sie ist bereit ihr Bestes zu geben, doch selbst das wird gerade gut genug sein für, das, was sie in England erwartet… Viele feiern Mrs. Gregory, viele hassen sie. Ich selbst lese ihre Bücher gern und finde sie unterhaltsam. Nichtsdestotrotz zieht sich die Handlung sehr gerne an unnötigen Stellen. So auch hier. Da es der Story insgesamt allerdings nur bedingt schadet, bleibe ich bei 4,5 Sternen.
Hard to enjoy a book when you dislike the main character... I was just too much in her head. I didn't like to constantly read her extremely repetitive thoughts. And the pacing of the story was off. Important turning points were skipped over. Told and not shown. Almost felt like reading a log book of historical events + a diary of a annoying person.
An interesting tantalising taste This is the prequel short story to Wrir's series based around the lives of Henry VIII's six wives. It summarises the life of Prince Arthur, older brother of Henry and original husband to Katherine of Aragon, and finishes just as these two meet (what follows obviously taking place in the first Novel in the series.) Arthur is a number of those "What if" characters from history, and, though there's unlikely to be much more to be told, I felt disappointed that this part was so short, I'd liked to have learned more about the would be king. But that's not what this tale is here for.
