Meet your new favorite Punkband- The Brightsiders. Alfie, Ryan and Emmy love music and are close friends and combined they rock every music hall. Unfortunately not everything is just rainbow and glitter. To be a rockstar with a mostly young audience means that you have to be the perfect role model at all time. Underage drinking does not fit into that picture and being involved into an accident just makes it worse. Emmy is in need of a break. She has to lay low, but to go home to her parent’s turns out to be a big mistake. You should stop drinking, but your parents are alcoholics and self-pity themselves for not being the biggest musicians of their time because, Emmy happened. She tries so hard to not end like her parents and that she will be finally understood by everyone. Emmy wishes she could be like her best friend Alfie, who is out and told everyone he is genderqueer, while she wishes to confess that she is bisexual. Thankfully her 18st birthday is just around the corner and she could not be happier that her friends planned a week of holiday on a Yacht. To be away from everything that pulls her down. But this free time comes also with time to think. How could Emmy miss that Alfie is a pretty good looking guy? With not much space to get out of each other’s way, how do you deal with these thoughts? Is it wise to fall in love with your best friend you know from childhood? On the other hand, no one understands you better as he can.
❤🧡💛💚💙💜 Wieder ein wundervolles und aufbauendes Buch von Jen Wilde. Hier mit weniger Nerdism (aber immer noch ausreichend viel) und mehr LGBT+ (SO viel mehr!). Ganz besonders wundervoll finde ich auch, dass es im selben "Universum" wie QUEENS OF GEEK spielt. Aber ich will nicht spoilern. Wer QUEENS OF GEEK und THE BRIGHTSIDERS im Regal hat, auf jeden Fall erst die Queens lesen. Hab ihr nur THE BRIGHTSIDERS dann ist das auch nicht schlimm. Auch ohne Queens lässt sich das Buch lesen. Man hat nicht das Gefühl etwas nicht zu wissen. Das einzige, das ich bemängeln würde wäre, dass ich nicht glaube, dass das Leben einer Band so abläuft, wie es hier im Buch geschildert wird. Besonders wenn man so plötzlich so erfolgreich wird. Ich bezweifele, dass man so viel allein durch die Gegend läuft und seine Songs allein im Studio aufnimmt. Das hat mich ziemlich irritiert. Ansonsten ist alles wundervoll. Die Dialoge, die Figuren, das Setting. Die Story ist ein wenig vorhersehbar, aber mich stört das bei Büchern ja eh nie so. Oh, eins noch. Da wir von Nichtwissen geredet haben. Ich habe noch nie im Leben Snapchat benutzt oder gesehen. Ich weiß nur, dass es vermutlich so ähnlich ist wie InstaStories, nur eben zuerst da war. Hier im Buch wird viel gesnapt (sagt man das so? ich bin alt) und ich wusste immer nicht was für Filter gemeint sind oder ob man auch quasi einen Privatchat haben kann zum snapen? Ich weiß es nicht. Aber das hat mich auch verwirrt.
Nicht so gut wie Queens of Geek, aber yay, Anxiety rep!
TW: Alkohol(missbrauch)/Alkoholsucht, Erbrechen, toxische Beziehungen zu Partner*in /Eltern, Anxiety, Bifeindlichkeit/Erasure, Homofeindlichkeit, Transfeinslichkeit, Misgendering Das sind einige TWs, die auch Triggerpunkte für mich persönlich sind, daher fand ich das Buch von Anfang an etwas stressig für mich, da Alkohol eine sehr große Rolle spielt und damit geht auch regelmäßiges Erbrechen einher. (nicht gut für meine Emetophobie). Aber trotzdem war es ein solider Read, für den ich somehow ewig gebraucht hab. Die Anxiety Rep mochte ich sehr (!!!) und auch die Tatsache, dass die Pronomen von trans Personen richtig genutzt wurden. (glaube außer an einer Stelle, in der es um Transfeinslichkeit geht - correct me if I'm wrong). Emmy ging mir allerdings doch manchmal auf die Nerven, mit manchen Aktionen, aber andererseits bin ich vermutlich auch nicht mehr ganz die Zielgruppe dieses Buches, also kann ich damit Leben. :D Im Gegensatz zu Queens Of Queek, würde ich The Brightsiders allerdings nicht nochmal lesen.😅
