He will learn to hand-craft beautiful volumes, and within each he will capture something unique and extraordinary: a memory. If there s something you want to forget, he can help. If there s something you need to erase, he can assist. Your past will be stored safely in a book and you will never remember your secret, however terrible. In a vault under his mentor s workshop, row upon row of books and memories are meticulously stored and recorded. Then one day Emmett makes an astonishing discovery: one of them has his name on it.

This was a nice slow developing and even though specked with troubles still very wholesome read. If you want something packed with action then this most definitely is not for you. Also you should be on the queer friendly front to enjoy this book's wholesomeness to its fullest. I must admit it seems to drag on a bit somewhere just past the middle while discovering about the past. so one gotta bring the patients to discover the story bit by bit, event by event and day by day just like life instead of receiving a short information packed summary of what happened in order to make room for action to take place in the presence. if you're waiting for a huge world shattering discovery that decides between good and evil in this world well don't. It's more a slice of life, painting a picture of what certain things mean in society and for those individuals suffering beneath it. Although I'm not a big fan of romantic stories and in the end it's clearly what this story is about it doesn't feel like it throughout a lot of the story which I truly appreciate. All in all just beautiful and heart warming.

I loved the idea of books being (bad) memories of people being bound into those pages. The execution was mediocre. The book is split into three parts, with 1 being painfully slow, 2 a very interesting flashback with a big revelation and 3 being from a different perspective whose characters voice I didn't like. The ending was so rushed (especially in comparison to how slow the whole book before was) and also kind of pointless.

2,5* Not what I expected, I wish there was more about the books and the binding and less about the "love" story.
