4.5/5 Wow, I do not know where to start with this one. Is this middle book syndrome? 'The Final Strife' is my favorite book EVER and I was so excited for 'The Battle Drum'! The blurb sounded very intriguing and I wanted to see more from Sylah, Anoor and my beloved Hassa. What I got was... not what I expected but SO worth every page!! I actually think this book could've been even better if it had been longer. In this second part, we learn a lot of new truths (and half-truths) and there are some HUGE plot twists! However, I felt that because of the sheer amount of new information the reader received, the book felt crammed and confusing at times. I wish we could've gotten more reading time to explore the new worlds and find out more about them. I also got really confused about who knew what and how because different characters come to the same conclusion/discover similar things at different points in time in the book and it was difficult for me to keep track of everything. Speaking of new characters: I loved Nayeli!! I loved reading about her rise to power and learning more about her home country and how her story fits together with the rest of the book. And, of course, I also thoroughly enjoyed spending more time with my favorite girls - Sylah, Anoor and Hassa. I think in the first one I liked them all equally but 'The Battle Drum' really cemented Hassa as my favorite character. She was also the only one that didn't annoy me at times lol. But wanting to scream at protagonists is kind of a hobby of mine, so...
