Tropes: – holiday affair – setting in a Mexican resort – cheating – artist x business man – age gap – possessive MMC
This book is a steam fest. Gianna Darling understands how to write good spice, and still tell a coherent and captivating story that is even interesting without the spice. Giselle‘s character development is probably the best part of the book. Comparing Giselle from the beginning of the book to her at the end of it, I think you can see how far she has come, how much more confident she has become, and keeping my points of critic out of the picture for a moment, empowering women is just such a beautiful and powerful thing. I can‘t help but give the book brownie points for this part. What bothers me about this story though is the cheating. I think cheating is NOT something that should be romanticized, and furthermore it shouldn‘t be the base of a relationship. What is so difficult about breaking up with the girlfriend when he discovers he has feelings for another woman? NOTHING, that‘s what. It‘s a matter of respect, and quite frankly, I wouldn‘t want to be with this man – even though he may has attributes that make him very attractive – when he does not respect his current girlfriend enough to break up with her… How could the FMC ever trust him not to do the same to her? I think that is a valid question to ask. And that aside, it‘s just so unfair and cruel to the girlfriend – Giselle does not need to meet her to be a decent human being, and not do this to this unknown woman. However, even though it does not excuse the act or make it better, I liked that they put a time limit to their affair, and that Giselle knew the facts from the beginning. She enters their arrangement willingly, not by force and not by false pretenses, that‘s at least something. Note on continuing – or rather not continuing the series: I liked this book, despite the cheating, it’s sensual, fun and a good read in my opinion, but I don‘t think I will read the following books. I know the girlfriend will be in those – I had an idea of who it will be (and my theory was confirmed to be true when I read some reviews about book 2 and 3), and I don‘t want to read about Sinclair and Giselle continuing their affair under her nose. I want to end this on a positive note, as long as that is possible, and when reading any further I know this would not be the case. Although, I will read Cosima‘s and Elena‘s (Giselle‘s sisters’) books. 3/5⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️(🌶️) /5
