For the first time in seven years, Allie Brosh—beloved author and artist of the extraordinary #1 New York Times bestseller Hyperbole and a Half—returns with a new collection of comedic, autobiographical, and illustrated essays.
Solutions and Other Problems includes humorous stories from Allie Brosh’s childhood; the adventures of her very bad animals; merciless dissection of her own character flaws; incisive essays on grief, loneliness, and powerlessness; as well as reflections on the absurdity of modern life.
This full-color, beautifully illustrated edition features all-new material with more than 1,600 pieces of art. Solutions and Other Problems marks the return of a beloved American humorist who has “the observational skills of a scientist, the creativity of an artist, and the wit of a comedian” (Bill Gates).
Praise for Allie Brosh’s Hyperbole and a Half:
“Imagine if David Sedaris could draw….Enchanting.” —People
“One of the best things I’ve ever read in my life.” —Marc Maron
“Will make you laugh until you sob, even when Brosh describes her struggle with depression.” —Entertainment Weekly
“I would gladly pay to sit in a room full of people reading this book, merely to share the laughter.” —The Philadelphia Inquirer
“In a culture that encourages people to carry mental illness as a secret burden….Brosh’s bracing honesty is a gift.” —Chicago Tribune

At 23% of this book (I‘ve read it as an eBook) I would have given „Solutions and other problems“ not more than 1-2 stars because I‘ve felt that it was messy and not funny, simply weird. Now, having finished, I later read stories that I got more, understood better and found funny. I started reading thinking that it was supposed to be funny only, because I remember „Hyperbole and a Half“ to be very funny and entertaining. Now I realize that thinking so was a mistake. Yes, „Solutions and other problems“ is funny but it‘s not it‘s sole purpose. It deals with a lot and Allie Brosh tries to make light of a lot of dark situations. I got to see the person behind the book and with that a sense of reality within this colorful chaos that is „Solutions and other problems“.
I am so sad. Solutions and Other Problems is the biggest disappointment of the year for me bookwise. When I saw that Allie Brosh had a new book coming out I got so excited, because I personally connected with Hyperbole and a Half and was able to emphatize with her. But with the second book I never found a connection and only chuckled a few times.
