In the summer of 2002, researchers gathered at Vanhalinna in Lieto to discuss the ancient Livs. Studies on the Late Iron Age carried out at the University of Turku are combined with the seminar themes in this volume. One of the focal points lies on the textiles and dress accessories of the coastal Baltic Finns. Dress is a highly ritual part of material culture. The book deals with ritualized communication, relationship with other instances of power, other people and other societies.
