I'm very sorry - please don't read this review if you did like the book. this rating might seem a bit harsh for a free little novella that overall was easy to read. but it was a really frustrating one, it made me angry and there are not many positive things I can say about it except that it was a fast and easy read - so that's the rating it got. things that really got on my nerves: - ESSENTIAL OILS? are you kidding me? how many times can you mention fucking essential oils in 130 pages? am I the only person who doesn't get this obsession? - what's wrong with West? Not sure I've ever read a less attractive male main character. a signed jersey? don't take the metro cause it's dangerous?? nice apartment AND SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD??? does it get any more privileged than that? I can't. - getting married after 7 months of a relationship without living together or having sex? in which century are we right now and how are they not gonna get a divorce after 2 days??also West talking about having 48574395 kids before the engagement and without talking to Mel about this at all? things that could've been better: - I get that you have to do things fast if you want to write a romance in 130 pages but it was very insta-lovey, very easily solved. Once they reconnected everything was very predictable and just to easy. - there was no chemistry or tension to be seen. if the novella was 200 pages, you really could have built some tension between them and it wouldn't have felt this insta-lovey. - I felt like Melanie's struggles with her anxiety and traumas were portrayed a little bit over-the-top. if it was toned down a bit, it would've added dimension to her character instead of seeming like those "cute quirks" were her whole personality. I don't normally use this many questions marks I swear.
