3.5 stars I loved the ending! While trying to help her Bram actually dooms Fiona. A clever twist I didn‘t see coming. Other than that the story was entertaining but not great. I didn‘t really like any of the characters and I thought Fi’s crime at the end too over the top but I still enjoyed reading the book.
Wow. My jaw dropped at the ending. Our House by Louise Candlish is an above the fold thriller that surprised, angered and frustrated me to no end. This is by no means a groundbreaking novel in terms of structure and use of tropes. What set it apart for me was the villain. What a low life. I have never read a pathetic loser cause so much harm. An absolutely toxic person that should never procreate. Truly vile scum. A real page turner, I gasped at many of the twists. Plenty of which I have not correctly guessed until revealed. The sheer dubiousness and simplicity of how things escalate will make your blood pressure rise until the crescendo. No one is really safe. Based on the title, this book tackles the importance of property, particularly a home, as a bastion of legacy. It also stresses the need to properly vet potential and current significant others. I read this book while listening to the audiobook. I must say that the experience was enjoyable and escapist. I highly recommend this.
I'm not really sure what to say here without spoilers except that this is a kind of mystery that I feel satisfies the reasons I want to read mysteries.
