Über das Buch

A Goodreads Choice Award finalist.
“I enjoyed the hell out of One Word Kill. Mark is an excellent writer.” – George R.R. Martin
In January 1986, fifteen-year-old boy-genius Nick Hayes discovers he’s dying. And it isn’t even the strangest thing to happen to him that week.
Nick and his Dungeons & Dragons-playing friends are used to living in their imaginations. But when a new girl, Mia, joins the group and reality becomes weirder than the fantasy world they visit in their weekly games, none of them are prepared for what comes next. A strange―yet curiously familiar―man is following Nick, with abilities that just shouldn’t exist. And this man bears a cryptic message: Mia’s in grave danger, though she doesn’t know it yet. She needs Nick’s help―now.
He finds himself in a race against time to unravel an impossible mystery and save the girl. And all that stands in his way is a probably terminal disease, a knife-wielding maniac and the laws of physics.

4 stars for most of the book, but the last approx. 20 pages really let me down.

I’ve read this one because my all time favorite Fantasy author Robin Hobb gave it a 6 star rating - 6 stars from a woman who claims that a 2 star rating is a book she “liked” to read! You can imagine the expectations I had in this book. I can’t particularly say that I didn’t enjoy reading One Word Kill. It’s more of the opposite, once I started getting into the story I didn’t want to put it down. It’s a nice read for when you’re on holiday as it can easily be consumed in a day. Maybe that’s what struck me as odd, the character development is quite strong but it cannot really unfold on these 194 pages. On the other hand I was happily dragged into the D&D storyline that Elton opens up for Nick, Mia, John and Simon each Saturday, loved the whole time travel situation and am still thinking about what was actually going on here. Nevertheless this book just did not grow as close to me as I would have liked it to.
