Beschreibung

"This blazing-hot forbidden romance manages to sensibly, and compassionately, capture the complexities of starting adult life after college and finding love and your identity in middle age. Cassie and Erin’s romance is by turns delightfully raunchy and deeply emotional. This reader hopes Wilsner keeps these scorchers coming." - The Washington Post

“[Wilsner writes] erotic yearning in a class all their own.” - Entertainment Weekly

From Meryl Wilsner, the acclaimed author of Something to Talk About, comes Mistakes Were Made, a sharp and sexy rom-com about a college senior who accidentally hooks up with her best friend’s mom.

When Cassie Klein goes to an off-campus bar to escape her school’s Family Weekend, she isn’t looking for a hookup―it just happens. Buying a drink for a stranger turns into what should be an uncomplicated, amazing one-night stand. But then the next morning rolls around and her friend drags her along to meet her mom―the hot, older woman Cassie slept with.

Erin Bennett came to Family Weekend to get closer to her daughter, not have a one-night stand with a college senior. In her defense, she hadn’t known Cassie was a student when they'd met. To make things worse, Erin’s daughter brings Cassie to breakfast the next morning. And despite Erin's better judgement―how could sleeping with your daughter’s friend be anything but bad?―she and Cassie get along in the day just as well as they did last night.

What should have been a one-time fling quickly proves impossible to ignore, and soon Cassie and Erin are sneaking around. Worst of all, they start to realize they have something real. But is being honest about the love between them worth the cost?

"Wilsner proves their serious romance range with a sophomore novel that laughs in the slow-burning face of their debut by kicking off with a hookup that'll have you fanning your face for days." - Buzzfeed

“A steaming hot, thoughtful story about all kinds of love, featuring a firecracker of a couple that’s impossible not to root for.” - Women's Health

The good news: she likes someone.... The bad news: it's her best friend's mum

This is going into my dnf, for now. Maybe I‘ll get back to it? maybe not This was praised to be THE Milf-Book. but it did not live up to my expectations. rom-coms are not my cup of tea tho so no rating. The story for me was too flat (I got to like 50%) and it felt like it was just to get something in between the spice. maybe the plot wouldve gotten better? I felt sorry for her daughter (don‘t recall any names tbh) and it just felt cringe that they were friends but she was also shaggin her mom I dont know. Spoiler > I heard that in the end they end up getting married and I can‘t get over the fact that she is now the step-mom of her best friend???

Absolute Empfehlung!

Tropes: – slow burn love – one night stand – sapphic – best friend‘s mom – age gap – women in STEM – Birthday Girl vibes – secret relationship – dual PoV

There is still a long way to go when it comes to sapphic books and especially spicy sapphic books that aren‘t sweet rom coms. I do mean it when I say, I need more books like this one. Books that center around two women AND are spicy AND sensual. This book is literally the sapphic version of Birthday Girl, and I‘m all here for that. I loved the tension between Cassie and Erin. I did feel it so very much. And at the same time there is good plot, not ‘just good spice‘. We get to find out who these two women are, and get to experience their character development. I also like that the supportive characters are no faceless nobodies, but that the book took time introducing them and let them play their roles in the protagonists lives without taking any time away from Erin and Cassie. For example Parker - Erin’s daughter and Cassie‘s best friend. The ending is rather fast in comparison to the rest of the book that is truly a slow burn. But that doesn‘t take away from how much I did enjoy reading it, how much I smiled while reading and how fast I flew through the pages.

Initially, it took me a few pages to ease into the author's way with words since I wasn't expecting it to be that explicit, but once I got past that, it was an enjoyable read. Steamy from the get go with lots of plausible struggles displayed by each and every character and their own ways of handling things. A light read, tugging at your heartstrings just the right amount.
