Magnus Chase and the Ship of the Dead (Book 3)

…. I’m speechless while also having too many thoughts.

I kinda wanna go all Magnus-flyting here and praise every single part of this book. But words- Once again, a very easy read; episodic while having beautiful pacing, urging to never be put down. The characters, beautiful in their own right, yet now we get more constellations between them and deepen/expand on the ones already established. Beautiful female empowerment. Uncle Rick understood the assignment. You don’t need female characters acting male to be strong. Pottery works too. A beautiful conclusion not only in the last chapter but as a whole. Yet it still manages to not make that the thing this book revolves around. Thank you. Just thank you for letting me read this.

Ich bin eigentlich echt ein grosser Fan von Rick Riordans Büchern, schon seit Jahren ziehen all seine Neuerscheinungen immer direkt bei mir ein und werden oftmals auch direkt verschlungen. Jedoch musste ich in letzter Zeit feststellen, dass die Begeisterung bei mir etwas nachgelassen hat und leider hat sich das besonders beim Abschluss der Magnus Chase Trilogie gezeigt. Was ich an Rick Riordans Büchern total mag ist der Humor, die liebenswerten und vielfältigen Figuren und wie er es schafft die alten Mythen und Götter (ob griechisch, römisch oder nordisch) auf kreative zu modernisieren und in spannende Geschichten zu verpacken. Doch während all seine Bücher diese tollen Dinge beinhalten, sind auch alle sehr ähnlich aufgebaut. Meistens gibt es irgendwie eine Prophezeiung und dann muss eine Gruppe von junger Helden irgendwie verhindern, dass etwas schreckliches geschieht und dies können sie nur indem sie sich auf den Weg irgendwohin/ auf die Suche nach etwas machen und währenddessen immer wieder auf irgendwelche mythischen Wesen treffen, die sie irgendwie besiegen müssen. Aufgrund des altbekannten Musters und auch weil in diesem Teil irgendwie alles sehr zufällig zusammengewürfelt wirkte, konnte mich das Buch leider nie wirklich fesseln. Auch wenn es Teile des Buches gab, die mir echt super gefallen haben (und ich besonders Alex und Sam echt total mochte), so ist bei mir leider nie wirklich Spannung aufgekommen und das Lesen hat mir einfach nicht so viel Spass gemacht wie ich es von einem Rick Riordan Buch gewohnt bin.

That end was just so sweet. I really wish there would be more books ):

Moments don’t last. You’ve got to enjoy each one for what it is. This was the perfect ending for the series! But what am I supposed to do now?! I absolutely LOVED this book. I really hope that we get more books about Magnus and his friends because I need more of Alex Fierro. (You hear that, Rick? I need more!) There are so many aspects that I loved about this book: - We get to know more about Mallory, TJ and Gunderson. I didn’t know I needed this but I loved Mallory’s backstory and her kicking some serious ass in this book. - The way the flyting went down. Magnus saving them all with positivity instead of insults was the cutest thing ever. I loved how he included everyone (except for Jack. I’m sorry, Jack) and I couldn’t stop smiling. Especially when he came to Alex. OH BOY I LIVED FOR MALEX. - The Chase Space. Holy shit. I think I fell in love with Magnus. That was such a great move and probably the best boon of the gods someone could ask for. This book made me laugh, swoon, and cry. The characters have such a great dynamic and are truly a great team. There wasn't a single moment where I was bored, I practically inhaled this book whenever I had the opportunity to read it. “Unless one of you is Magnus Chase, of course, in which case I’d have to kill you right away. One of you isn’t he, I hope”? No one responded, though my friends all glared at me like Dang it, Magnus. I rarely say this but this but should be longer than a trilogy. Gotta catch up with the other Rick Riordan books now.
