Alternate cover edition.
I, Braxton Fawn, am the luckiest girl alive.
Or so the world keeps telling me.
Every so often, gods walk the earth. This time they came as musicians. When Bound loses its lead guitarist, yours truly is chosen to fill his shoes. From dive bars to the big stage, my instant claim to fame is nothing short of a fairytale. The only problem?
My new bandmates.
Jaded, gorgeous, and ridiculously talented—they’re determined to turn my dream into a nightmare. It’s no secret I wasn’t their first choice. I wasn’t even their last. The label wants a new image, Bound wants me gone, but I’ve got my own agenda.
To succeed I have to survive a world tour, public scrutiny, and idols turned enemies. But the biggest threat of all isn’t a meticulous front man, a narcissistic bassist, and a drummer with too many secrets.
It’s me.
Somehow, I must resist the temptation of Houston Morrow, Loren James, and Jericho Noble. It seemed easy enough when I boarded their tour bus, but it only took one city for the lines we’d drawn to blur.
Only ninety-nine more to go.
Lilac is a reverse harem romance and standalone.

Bisschen viel konstruiertes Drama aber die spicy Szenen waren ganz nice

This was the first reverse harem I've ever read. Turns out I don't like reverse harems, or at least this one. It is way too long for no reason (18h audio?), it does not have much plot but I don't think you can even say it's character-driven since all the childhood dramas/past issues are not unfolded that good, beside the ones of Braxton, maybe. Besides that, the characters are at least constant (I don't think that is the right word, but their actions and feelings make sense throughout the whole book, you know). That's a plus. The reason why I started this book was because of the rockstar aspect, and I honestly am a bit sad because the music doesn't play a big role, really. Same with the m/m-romance. It's such a long book and all we get are a few hints and one scene where this relationship is in the focus. On the other hand, the spicy scenes are...not my cup of tea? I don't know, they feel like there is way to little consent going on, even though Braxton mentions all the time they only pretend she doesn't have a choice but really? It doesn't feel this way, at least not in the beginning. Especially three scenes (or rather chapters) were so cringe and uncomfortable to read for me, I just sped up the audio and barely listened, my main goal was not to miss any important plot elements. Considering that one time, they're in a park, another time in a church, which doesn't improve matters. Then, the author tried to throw in some dark themes, but everyone of the mcs got one, and none of them (except Braxton's, again) are dealed with in depth which is sad since the themes are actually important (Jericho is an orphan, Houston lost his parents because of suicide, Loren has an unloving father and Braxton has over-the-top christian parents). For example, this Emily bit in the end? Just no. I don't think this is even important for the plot. I guess I complained enough about this book now, I listened to the whole thing, so it can't be that bad, right? Also, I have to mention the narrators of the audiobook. They are great, they do everything right (includes not reading lines of other genders in ridiculously pitched voices, communicating feelings well) and are one of the few reasons why I kept going with this book.

Mixed feelings. That is how I would describe my experience of reading this book. Overall I did enjoy it. But expecially when it comes to Braxton I‘m not sure if I liked her – I liked her sass, and how she gave the boys contra but she also was so exhausting sometimes, for example when she insisted she can‘t sleep with them and then did it anyway, or when they wanted to be with her and she constantly pushed them away. I understood some of it but sometimes these mood swings weren‘t reasonable in my opinion and caused some lengths in the story. I grew pretty keen on the boys. They are very different personalities in some way, and that makes each of them interesting in his own way. I also like how the book takes time to tell each of their stories. I listened to the audiobook, and I can recommend this one very much. The speakers are amazing🙌 3/5⭐️ 4/5🌶
