I enjoyed this book significantly more than the first one. The plot was exciting and interesting. But I must say - it felt a bit unbelievable. Not because the plot itself was far fetched, but rather because it was set up poorly in the previous book. The entire plottwist towards the end and the storyline caused by it, felt like a last minute idea the author had when writing the very last scene in Queen of Madness. It was not set up in the slightest and I doesn’t really make sense considering the beginning of the series. If you would change some aspects then and there, it would be a great storyline. But this way it just feels a bit ridiculous. You’re telling me there was a gigantic backstory that the mmc not ONCE thought about in the first book? Not for one second? When 80% of the book was his pov and the entire plot revolved around the grand scheme, but left out some important pieces? I don’t buy it. But I enjoyed this book and the plot. It was a good conclusion to the story that was more exciting than the first one. And I liked the way the different pov were used way more here. This time it actually made sense to not give us Ezekiel’s pov because it would have ruined the suspense for us. Overall a decent duet, that I’m sure many enjoy but it was kinda disappointing for me. The story idea was unique tho, so points for that. But I wouldn’t go out of my way to recommend it to anyone. They’re are better mafia romances out there, but I’ve also read worse. 3.5
