Kill the Boy Band

If you're looking for a short and readable book that features an unreliable narrator, not a single likeable character but in case fat-shaming, homophobic content and fandom shaming* then this might just be the thing for you. * I'm not sure if the author attempted to show that all fans are nuts, that you shouldn't be a fan at all (because it's all pointless anyway, especially after you're not a teenager anymore) or that you're only a true fan if you do asinine things, I don't know but it doesn't look good any way you look at it. Edit: I read some tweets of the author on Twitter and what they reposted and apparently the author thinks her portrayal is what fans are/should be like. That's legitimately terrifying. As a former boy band fangirl, I was really looking forward to read Kill the Boy Band and even though the book has some parts where I thought "Sure, that would never ever happen that way", I really enjoyed reading it. It is one of those books you need to be in the right mood for. As I already said, it's really unrealistic (and I'm not even referring to the whole kidnapping-plot) but in such a hilarious and funny way, that you don't really care. I actually really like the slapstick comedy and the characters, especially the Ruperts and the fact that all of them had some problems (such as being unable to read the a clock). It's one of those books that reminds you of how awesome (and crazy!) being a fangirl was and how superstars are just normal people as you and I. The only part I didn't really like was the whole idea of who actually killed Rupert P. (I don't know what I was expecting but in the end it just felt like the author randomly picked someone to blame).

That certainly was an experience. The book was incredibly weird, but in a good way. It was absolutely over the top and even though I had problems getting into the story at the beginning, I couldn’t stop reading. I didn’t like the characters and the bar scenes seemed a bit unnecessary to me. But all in all a good book for someone who’s in the mood to read a parody.
