RV angst

After reading "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder," which I absolutely loved, and liking the writing style, I also wanted to read this authors other books and this was the next one I decided on. While it doesn't come close to AGGGTM, it's a pretty good thriller I enjoyed reading and would recommend. Objectively, it could also be rated higher, I just personally wasn't THAT emotionally invested (well, besides my rage over one particular character 👀). The story is already described on the cover, and you really don't need to know much more. Six friends in an RV on their way to enjoy spring break, get lost, and are suddenly under attack from a sniper, who demands to know a secret one of them has in order for the others to survive. It's a pretty simple setup, and 400 pages were really a bit long for everything. I do like the author's style with the detailed descriptions, but I felt like it just wasn't necessary for everything. Most of the story takes place inside the RV, which is a cool idea, but it (literally) feels a bit constricted/limited. I also didn't feel like they were REALLY in danger for most of the book. As soon as we knew what was going on, it was clear to me nobody of them would be shot until the end. The sniper wants the secret, so he wouldn't kill them, and from a storytelling point of view, they also wouldn't kill a character before we knew what was going on with them. So after the setup, the middle, felt a bit long. I knew they were going nowhere with those plans and wanted to get to the secrets already! It wasn't directly boring or anything, but the book just could have been shorter there. Now, onto the characters. I did like Red, the protagonist. Her thoughts were interesting and well written (I think she's supposed to have ADHD). Also really liked Arthur and their awkward flirting. Most of the others were just fine, nothing special, and then there is Oliver... FUCKING OLIVER LAVOY 🤬 I can't remember when I was last so angry and annoyed with a fictional character. The seething hate I felt for this man. He was just such a prick! Mansplayning, manipulating, gaslighting piece of shit! The audacity he had, playing himself up as the leader, the one that is never wrong (while being wrong all the time), like the entitled asshole he is! I wanted to go in there and strangle him 💀 The sniper was supposed to be the villain, but for me, it was Oliver! .... Ok, time to calm down. The whole reveal at the end was interesting, and I was surprised by a few things. Others were a bit obvious, but not all the details. Just some of their own ideas about why they were in this situation/what the secret was was a bit weird to me. At one point, they were convinced it was a certain thing, but that didn't make sense. I was just like, "Well, OBVIOUSLY, it's not like that. Think!" Like I said, it also wouldn't make sense for the sniper to just kill them. He could have done that at any time. He obviously wants something, and he told them that! All in all, a good book that took a while to get into, had some lengths, but an interesting plot/ backstory. The ending was also really cool, and I didn't even mind that it was left a bit open with some stuff (but what was the pattern in the curtains? 🥹). Even though it wasn't a highlight for me, I'd definitely recommend this book.

Best book I ever read! I was addicted

holy moly

The start was kind of boring, but after the first 80 pages or so, the story got really intense and interesting really fast. I liked how the characters were portrayed and what twists the story held.
