Über Jack London
Jack London (eigentlich John Griffith Chaney, 1876–1916) war ein extrem populärer amerikanischer Schriftsteller und Journalist, dessen kurzes Leben ebenso intensiv war wie seine Werke. Er wuchs in San Francisco in ärmlichen Verhältnissen auf und musste schon früh die Schule verlassen, um sich als Fabrikarbeiter, Matrose, Austernpirat und Landstreicher durchzuschlagen. Diese rauen Erfahrungen in der Arbeiterklasse und in der Wildnis bildeten die Grundlage für seine Literatur. Der Durchbruch gelang ihm nach seiner Teilnahme am Klondike-Goldrausch in Alaska, als er begann, seine Erlebnisse literarisch zu verarbeiten.
