Well, this book was a bit of a hit and miss for me. The most part it was really good and I got a lot of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th vibes from it. Unfortunately, it also had many of the bad elements of the 80s-style slasher movies. I’m not a big fan of the character description. The author was trying to give them depth and background but in the end it was just too many different story lines and I did not care at all about any of them. They were rather poorly written, at times it was a little cheesy and predictable and even repetitive on occasions, like the fact that Ignacio isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed which is frankly quite obvious without us being told several times over. However, the rest was everything I’d want in a good slasher, a remote cabin location, a cannibal killer, several perspectives and as much gore as even possible. The murder scene descriptions were so well done that I felt like I was watching them play out right in front of me. The narrative moved along at a good pace so I was able to fly through the story in just a few days. From the beginning, the story got me hooked, had a great pace and alternated back and forth between different groups of people until all stories ultimately collide at the end. Overall, this novel an entertaining read. I would highly recommend this novel to any horror readers who can handle an intense story with plenty of body horror.
