A bold, timely novel about speaking up and coming out as parents lobby to ban a beloved book from the school curriculum by New York Times-bestselling author David Levithan.

When Donovan left his copy of The Adventurers on the kitchen counter, he didn't think his mom would read it—much less have a problem with it. It's just an adventure novel about two characters trying to stop an evil genius...right?

But soon the entire town is freaking out about whether the book's main characters are gay, Donovan's mom is trying to get the book removed from the school curriculum, and Donovan is caught in the middle.

Donovan doesn't really know if the two boys fall in love at the end or not—but he does know this: even if they do, it shouldn't matter. The book should not be banned from school.

Interweaving three connected storylines, David Levithan delivers a bold, fun, and timely story about taking action (whether it's against book censors or deadly alligators...), being brave, and standing up for what's right.

I just loved this book! I think it single-handedly cured my inner child. I cried twice while reading this book. Which isn't a lot, but considering that there isn't really anything tragic happening that is a lot. For anyone wondering I cried because of SPOILER: '"Thank you, Gideon," Bright said. Thank you, Roberto," Mr. Howe replied.' And because of: '"Write something about me someday," Gideon said. Roberto smiled and said, "I just might." (He did.)' This book is just the cutest book I have ever read and I love that even though it dealt with that, it has kept the amount of homophobia to a minimum. I also love that all of the students were supportive and there was noone in the younger generation who wasn't. I only have one question. Can someone explain to me why almost all of the friendship groups we know of has a 2 boys, 1 girl ratio? Is there something magic about that constellation? Or did the author just try to include girls and this was just the bare minimum he could get himself to do? Because those girls don't really have a relevance for the story either... Anyhow, I really enjoyed the book and I'm sure I'm just reading too much into it.

Wirklich großartig! 🏳️‍🌈💛

Made me tear up multiple times. Lived the structure it was told in! Had me hooked from page one.
