This is probably not even the entry for the comic adaptation, but I'm gonna count it anyway, seeing as the plot will still be the same. And it was the visuals that saved the beginning for me, the plot did not - I absolutely hate-read it :D I was deeply triggered by a lot of the content (forced marriages, urgh. The Medieval setting coming with the idea that wives belong to their husbands and this icky marital duty topic coming up again and again, URGH. The subsequent rape, URGH!!) and can't say that I am still not deeply frustrated with the communication between the main character and pretty much everyone. So I was deeply pleased to see growth in her during Riftan's absence, but MY GOD. When season one ends they both haven't said any of the important shit yet and it DRIVES ME UP A WALL. I like that we have a disabled MC, but at the same time her stutter lessens without any professional help just because she feels better and I think that perpetrates a weird idea about disability getting 'better' as long as disabled people change their circumstances themselves. That paired with her immense internalised ableism (which has a root in external ableism) was simply not the best of times for me to read. TW: rape, physical and emotional abuse by a parent, ableism, a father that needs his own warning, violence and so, so, soooo much self-hatred by the MC that leads to what I interpret as depression and anxiety attacks.
