Nach einem gescheiterten Attentat auf Frankreichs Staatspräsident Charles de Gaulle beauftragt die Terrororganisation OAS einen Profikiller, um den Politiker zu töten. Langsam pirscht sich "Der Schakal" an seine Zielperson heran - doch ein Inspektor ist ihm dicht auf den Fersen. Frederick Forsyth wird 1938 in Ashford/England geboren. Er absolviert u.a. eine Ausbildung als Pilot bei der britischen Luftwaffe, arbeitet ab 1965 als Kriegsreporter für die BBC - bis er mit dem Thriller "Der Schakal" 1971 seinen Durchbruch als Schriftsteller feiert. Hannes Jaenicke wurde 1984 mit dem Kinofilm "Abwärts" bekannt, spielte in einigen "Tatort"-Folgen mit Maria Furtwängler deren Freund.

The typical story of an atypical hero slugging it out against the bullies who manage to undo all his good work. What is different here is the villain is far more resourceful and for a time you actually feel he deserves not to be caught. The pace is good, the story is not overloaded with characters and the descriptive passages are good. The only issue is that the author likes his writing about Europe so much that readers like me who have never been there can find themselves out of depth.
