Eines der besten Fantasybücher, das ich in letzter Zeit gelesen habe, mit überzeugenden Charakteren, sehr gutem Worldbuilding und einem Protagonisten/Erzähler, dessen trockener Witz und Derbheit aus einer guten Geschichte eine hervorragende Lektüre macht. Rund 400 Seiten sind eine gute Länge und doch hätten es am Ende auch gerne 200 Seiten mehr sein können – ich wollte die Gefährten nicht ziehen lassen. Gut, dass mit Daughters' War im Sommer 2024 Teil 2, ein Prequel zu Blacktongue Thief, erschienen ist.
This was a fun read! The plot itself is not something I would call groundbreaking, but the worldbuilding is great and has a lot of neat ideas packed into it. There is a very thin line between a dry-humored, sarcastic, often-swearing first-person narrator and cringy edginess. It's managed quite well here though and I chuckled more often than not. And, last but not least, Bully Boy will stay in my heart for some time now. Raoo!
