Beschreibung

When a beautiful, aspiring writer strides into the East Village bookstore where Joe Goldberg works, he does what anyone would do: he Googles the name on her credit card.

There is only one Guinevere Beck in New York City. She has a public Facebook account and Tweets incessantly, telling Joe everything he needs to know: she is simply Beck to her friends, she went to Brown University, she lives on Bank Street, and she’ll be at a bar in Brooklyn tonight—the perfect place for a “chance” meeting.

As Joe invisibly and obsessively takes control of Beck’s life, he orchestrates a series of events to ensure Beck finds herself in his waiting arms. Moving from stalker to boyfriend, Joe transforms himself into Beck’s perfect man, all while quietly removing the obstacles that stand in their way—even if it means murder.

A terrifying exploration of how vulnerable we all are to stalking and manipulation.

Oh my god!! I really don't know how I can express my feelings about this book :-D it was so so so good, but damn scary haha

Absoluter Pageturner!

I had trouble getting into it because I’m not a fan of the writing style (“You walk into the bookstore and you keep your hand on the door to make sure it doesn’t slam. You smile, embarrassed to be a nice girl […]”) However, after a few chapters, it got me hooked. It could have been shorter though, since I got bored after some time. The book is about a stalker, but none of it came as a surprise to me – there weren’t any big plot twists which might have surprised me. Joe was a sick psycho and his character was written really well – but I still didn’t like any of them. Nevertheless, I’m looking forward to reading the second one. I’m curious how Joe’s life develops after all this.

I only started getting really interested in this story after already having read around 70%, and it only lasted for a few chapters. I understand that writing Joe's perspective is different, and that reading it was going to be strange, but, even if I can't relate to the MC, I should always be able to somehow feel. Anything. Plus, while I enjoy an occasional pop culture reference this is totally over the top. They should be like easter eggs, nice if you spot them. Not totally on your nose in a way which makes you feel stupid if you don't immediately get all of them.
