This is one of those books that just make you nod your head all the time. Amy drops so many truth bombs that just had me like: OKAY WOW. Also the fact that she narrates the audiobook herself made the listening experience so great. Her sense of humor and wit just make this a really good book to read in your free time. This was one of the best memoirs I have read to this date, and I definitely recommend the audiobook for this one. If you want to get into memoirs, try this one first!

I really wanted to like this book, believe me. Everyone I talked to told me that they loved this book and that it was uplifting, funny and unique. I just do not agree. Amy does tell 'her story' in a funny and Amy-ish way. It was funny at times. But I was kinda annoyed by her always complaining about how hard it is to write a book. Duh, if you don't want to write one then don't??? I love memoirs of strong, fun women but Amy's just wasn't my cup of tea. Maybe it's because I don't really follow her shows and couldn't relate to her that much? I guess if you are a fan of Poehler, improv, SNL or parks & recreation you will love this. But if you aren't and you want to read that book because people keep raving about it (like me) then don't.

"Yes Please" by Amy Poehler got 5 out of 5 possible stars? Why I try to explain since I'm not a person who gives 5 stars that easily. 4 stars mostly, but rarely 5. First of all, you need to know something about this book - it's really focused on improv/stand up comedy/SNL. If you're kinda familiar with this, good. If not, it's not that bad (all least I think so but that could be my biased opinion). I've written my bachelor thesis about Saturday Night Live in the 70s, so whatever Amy wrote about it in this book was already kind of familiar to me in some way. And since I'm a SNL fan, I really liked these parts. Yay me. But she also told stories about her life in a really humorous way. Typical Amy-Poehler way, as I may say. Because of this, the memoir never gets boring. She doesn't ramble on too much (and when she does, it's not boring and anyways it never is too long until she cuts to a new topic). In the stories she tries to give advice in her own way, like, "that's how it worked out for me, it might help you but otherwise really couldn't". Try it your own way. Or, as she also wrote: "Good for you, not for me". The whole time, it seems as if Amy was your best friend. She gave you insight to her life, told jokes, and gave you advice in her own way. That really worked for me. I never got the feeling that she was some stuck up, know-it-all person who told you to "do that because that will improve your life 100%! Come on, best way ever!". No. Also, the way it was written made it read easy and since implying humour is always good to make a read fly by, it wasn't really hard to stay away from "Yes Please". From time to time, I sent friends pictures of paragraphs. Just because they were funny, true or both. I always got the message "hey, that's good! I need to read that book!" or "That's really funny written. I need to read that book" back. Either proven, that I got similar thinking friends or a really universal book in my hands. Which made me happy, since I liked Amy from TV and Amy in the book. I hope, it got a little bit clear why I liked this book so much. And seriously Amy (if you ever read this, which I doubt, but hey, let's try): You told that writing a book is hard, but you really made it look simple.

Hilarious and a quick read. You can hear Poehler's voice through her writing style. I recommend this book to anyone who likes biographies or is looking for a laugh. She makes great points in the things she says.
