Some useful information in here but I had a couple of issues with the book. In particular it introduced me to the concept of mental "leaps" which I think will be worth being aware of this as a concept. The entire book is written in a Q&A format which I liked for a summary book. One is the fact that the first like in the preamble is "Congratulations! You've become a proud mother or father of a cute baby." But then the rest of the book is talks you as if you are the mother "your voice reminds the little one of the time in your womb. By the way, since the baby also knows dad's voice from that time..." My main issue is imprecise answers to the questions that are posed in the book. An example: Does bottle feeding versus breastfeeding have an impact on the baby's mental development? Studies have shown that breastfeeding is preferable. Of course, it could be that you aren't able to nurse or decide against it. It doesn't have consequences for your baby's mental development. The baby takes the same leaps at the same set times, and as parents, you don't handle the leaps differently in breastfed babies than in bottle-fed babies" In other words the answer to the question is "No", but the author also includes that breastfeeding is "preferable" but without saying why or referencing any evidence for that statement. There are many other examples of things that at a glance sound right but when you stop to think about them either don't tell you anything or are actually confusing. "Babies know best" with regards to feeding at one point but later in the book it talks about what and when to feed the baby. When did the kid lose it's ability to "know best"? Some people will find my review to be nit-picking but they resulted in me constantly second guessing the author's advice.
