Beschreibung

A pretend relationship gives two friends more than they bargained for in a Renaissance Faire rom com filled with flower crowns, kilts, corsets, and sword fights.

Single mother April Parker has lived in Willow Creek for twelve years with a wall around her heart. On the verge of being an empty nester, she’s decided to move on from her quaint little town, and asks her friend Mitch for his help with some home improvement projects to get her house ready to sell.

Mitch Malone is known for being the life of every party, but mostly for the attire he wears to the local Renaissance Faire—a kilt (and not much else) that shows off his muscled form to perfection. While he agrees to help April, he needs a favor too: she'll pretend to be his girlfriend at an upcoming family dinner, so that he can avoid the lectures about settling down and having a more “serious” career than high school coach and gym teacher. April reluctantly agrees, but when dinner turns into a weekend trip, it becomes hard to tell what's real and what's been just for show. But when the weekend ends, so must their fake relationship.

As summer begins, Faire returns to Willow Creek, and April volunteers for the first time. When Mitch's family shows up unexpectedly, April pretends to be Mitch's girlfriend again...and it doesn't feel so fake anymore. Despite their obvious connection, April insists they’ve just been putting on an act. But when there’s the chance for something real, she has to decide whether to change her plans—and open her heart—for the kilt-wearing hunk who might just be the love of her life.

Dont be fooled because of the kilt on the cover!!This book had a good foundation: a single mother, a basically grown up daughter and a younger man/lover, small town romance, kilts with strong thighs peeking through. But it absolutely did not deliver. I tried to like April, I tried to like Mitch, but no one in this book , including any kind of side characters, did anything for me and I could not care less about them.I can understand April, her anxiety and general fears, to a certain extend but then I was reminded that this woman is 40years old, and not 20, which then led me to not understand her at all. Mitch was..not it. Kind of annoying to be honest. Sure, he seems to be a nice dude with great physics, but I failed to find him loveable. April and Mitch together ? I just dont see it.I feel like because this book was written completely from April's perspective, we miss so much of her and Mitch's relationship developing that the romance felt just off. The fact that we constantly skip from one weekend to another and let alone let weeks pass between chapters, doesn't help at all. However, I can confirm that April indeed did "climb him like a tree". One way or another. Good for her.The only reason this book has a 3 star rating is because I appreciate April's romantic gesture at the very end of the book and because of the goodness of my heart. But overall, this might as well be easily a 2,75rating.

Ich mag die Charaktere und die Thematiken sehr, aber Band 1 kann für mich noch nichts toppen. Die ein oder anderen Übersetzungsholper waren mal dabei. Aber ansonsten wunderbar.
